A Box of Chocolate?

Here I am, standing at a crossroad—again. I just left a very comfortable teaching job to go back to special ed. My heart is crying once again. It reminds me so much of saying good-bye to my friends in LA 7 years ago. And the weather is not helping at all. It’s dark and gloomy outside. It’s been raining though it’s supposed to be dry season at this tie of the year. The key word here is supposed to be. I’m supposed to be married with children at this age, to the man who loves me in spite of me. I’m supposed to have my green card in the US after a very long wait for an approval for political asylum. I’m supposed to have my PhD and a teaching career at a university and several school districts by now, after a very hard fight for my MA and credentials. What has happened is: life has passed me by. I feel like I’ve been standing at the station, watching the trains come and go so fast that I couldn’t have a chance to reach out. Let alone secure a seat aboard. Do I regret some of the decisions I’ve make? I have to admit that I do. Had I said yes to him, he’d be mine now. Had I left that school years ago, I would’ve been hired by a better district earlier. But life’s too short to be filled with what if’s and maybe’s. And certainly way too short for a chance to be a such sore loser. Honestly, if I sit down and start counting my blessings, it’ll take years before I even get a chance to use the bathroom! God has been good to me. So good that I don’t even know where to start with. They say, ‘Life is a box of chocolate. You’ll never know what you’re gonna get.’ Well, with my age, fortunately came some wisdom: whatever chocolate my fingers touch, it’ll be good. Because I know my God has provided me with the best quality of sweets even money can’t buy.
